The rest of this part was a hodge-podge of PVC and Sintra, beveled on my router for the funky edge along the inner section. I started the smaller drum by vacuumforming the outer "cap" I started calling the cylinders toward the back the "drum assemblies" as I had absolutely no idea what they were supposed to be. While waiting for the laser cut parts to arrive, I started work on the handle portion of the gun. Below are two mockups of the main gun body - both were slightly off, so its a good thing I made mockups before committing! Before I sent the files out though, I made paper templates to make sure all my designs were accurate. Parts were all cut by Ponoko, in various thicknesses of acrylic. A lot of the geometry needed to be exact, so I spent about 4 days working out all the project parts in Illustrator. This project marks my first foray into the world of laser cutting. He gave me a copy of the files to work with, and now I had the best blueprints I could possibly hope for! While I was there, I met one of their designers named Tristan Reidford who had been working on his own very detailed model of the Gravity Gun. You should now be able to use the command MAP to begin any of the Half Life 2 levels with the Portal Gun! (to give yourself all weapons and ammo, use impulse 101 – this is important because of course Half Life 2 does not contain the Portal Gun normally!). When you start the game press the twiddle key ~ to bring up the console, and enter: sv_cheats 1 (this will activate cheats). Be sure to start the program with -dev -console parameters, (set these by right-clicking on Portal in your My Games section, then clicking properties and ‘Set Launch Options…’. You should now be able to start Portal and you will have successfully imported all the Half Life 2 content and levels. Right Click on the hl2 folder, and extract this folder to the \Steam\SteamApps\\Portal\Portal folder (for instance, mine is C:\Program Files\valve\Steam\SteamApps\fraj\Portal\Portalįollow the same step as above with the reslists folder, extracting to the same \SteamApps\Portal\Portal folder. Run GCFScape and click File » Open and locate your Steam folder (For instance, C:\Program Files\valve\Steam\SteamApps\ and select the file ‘half-life 2 content.gcf’
